Meet the Artists - James and Erin Robinson

Seven years ago, while attending graduate art school at Ohio University, I excavated over 2,500 "Athens Blocks" from the hills surrounding the Hocking River. I used these bricks to create a sculpture garden behind my studio in Athens, Ohio.

Upon sharing this experience with others I soon learned almost everyone in the area has an "Athens Block" experience to share and that they shared this experience with great enthusiasm. My wife, Erin, and I met at Ohio University and once we graduated we decided to merge our ceramic studio and foundry together to create renderings of the "Athens Block". We did this to recognize and celebrate the historical and cultural connection a simple brick has made with the Athens community over time.

We hope you will enjoy the various ways "Athens Block" has returned.
